One of the most special and original events of the year in the "city of the 4 rivers" is Temps de Flors. An ideal time to make a getaway to Girona and see it blossom! A city that is already charming, now its beauty is enhanced with the color of the flowers.
This year 2022 we celebrate the 67th edition of this floral festival. If you plan to travel to Girona on May, you cannot miss Temps de Flors, from May 7 to 15, 2022.
During this spring fair, the city becomes a great exhibition of flowers, including monuments, gardens and patios: from the Cathedral of Girona, to the Basilica of Sant Feliu, passing through the Arab baths, the Pujada de Sant Domènec and the air-raid shelter of the Gardens of Infancia.
There is a unique atmosphere all around the “barri vell”. You can breathe the spring and the festive environment.
A bit of history of Temps de Flors
Temps de Flors dates back to 1954. Its creator was María Cobarsí, who began with a small exhibition of flowers and plants at the Municipal Theater of Girona. This has become a city-wide celebration of international renown.
The floral exhibition changed its scenery over the years, until in 1992 it was held throughout the old town. Its motto "Girona, Temps de Flors" was created by the poet Josep Tarrés in 1993 to capture the multitude of spaces in which this floral festival takes place.
In addition to the flower exhibition, various events, shows and activities are organized. Culture, beauty and spring are the protagonists in the city during the 9 days of Temps de Flors.
The most iconic places to visit in Temps de Flors
It is difficult to choose the highlights of the Girona spring fair, although most of them are around the old town area.
Private patios and gardens are opened to the public to show incredible flower displays, along with the windows of some shops. Everyone joins this special moment!
It is worth to highlight the beauty of the stairs of the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The project chosen for this 2022 edition is a tribute to Josep Tarrés Fontan, who died in 2021.
The person in charge of it is the sculptress Pia Crozet, wife of the honoured. The project symbolizes the sea through hydrangeas of three different shades of blue. We can't wait to see the result!
Other essential places are the well-known "pujada de Sant Domènec", whose staircase, also known for its presence in the filming of Game of Thrones, offers productions full of life and colour. In addition, we recommend visiting the Arab Baths, the Eiffel Bridge, the steps of the Basilica of Sant Feliu, the “plaça dels Jurats” and the gardens “jardins dels alemanys”.

In addition to the Girona flower festival, during Temps de Flors takes place the festival "Girona a cappella”, a complementary proposal that will put the cherry on the cake to make your getaway unforgettable.
